John S. Callas
John was born and raised in Moline, Illinois. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Finance from the University of Illinois in 1979 and his JD from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, Illinois – Kent College of Law in 1982. He was admitted to the Illinois Bar and the US District Court for the Central District of Illinois in 1982 and in 1990 was admitted to the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. John has practiced and experienced a wide range of practice areas primarily in civil litigation. John’s practice currently actively includes non-personal injury civil litigation, ERISA, labor law, corporate law and commercial litigation, real estate, and probate. John has been involved in a variety of community organizations and served a number of public appointments.
John is an avid golfer and proudly maintains a 26 handicap. John has twice attempted and twice failed to qualify for the U.S. Amateur; he has been politely asked not to try a third time.
Timothy M. Feeney
Tim was born in Davenport, Iowa. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Iowa in 1989, he continued at Iowa, receiving his J.D., with distinction, in 1992. Upon graduation he served as law clerk to the Honorable Lee M. Jackwig, Chief U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Southern District of Iowa. He is a member of the Rock Island County Bar Association, the Scott County Bar Association, and the Illinois and Iowa State Bar Associations. He has served the Iowa State Supreme Court Commission on the Unauthorized Practice of Law for over nine years. He currently serves as a director for Federal Bar Association of Iowa’s Board. He has been a member of several boards of directors, including Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Quad Cities and the Quad City Claims Association. Tim practices in the areas of personal injury, auto accidents, civil litigation, bankruptcy, debtor/creditor, dram shop liability, commercial litigation, workers compensation, insurance defense, general practice, real estate and probate.
Michael W. Halpin
Mike was born and raised near Albany, New York. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Roger Williams University in 2001 and his JD from the University of Illinois in 2008. He served as law clerk for the Honorable Rita B. Garman of the Illinois Supreme Court from 2008 to 2010, before joining McCarthy, Callas & Feeney, P.C. Mike is a member of the Rock Island and Scott County Bar Associations, the Illinois and Iowa State Bar Associations. He also serves as a Board Member for Bridging the Gap, a stand down for homeless veterans. He was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 2008 and to the Iowa Bar in 2010. His primary areas of practice include family law, labor and employment law, real estate, contracts, small claims and collections, wills, personal injury, auto accidents, and traffic/DUI/criminal defense.
John E. Remus
John E. Remus has been with McCarthy, Callas & Feeney, P.C. since 2014 when he was admitted to the Iowa Bar, he was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 2015. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Iowa where he graduated with Distinction. He attended Drake University for his Juris Doctor, graduating with High Honors. While in law school, John clerked for the Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Iowa Legal Aid, he also served as the Note Editor for the Drake Law Review.
John’s practice areas include assisting individuals obtain Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income benefits before the Social Security Administration, as well as family law, municipal law, general civil litigation, and criminal defense. John also has a transactional practice which includes real estate, business transactions, and entity formation. John has successfully represented clients on both sides of the Mississippi River and is licensed to practice in the state courts in Iowa and Illinois, as well as the Central District of Illinois Federal Court. John is a member of the Rock Island County Bar Association, Scott County Bar Association, Illinois Bar Association, and Iowa Bar Association.
Andrew S. McClarity
Andrew received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Eastern Illinois University and his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School. He worked as a law clerk for the City of Chicago and as a solo practitioner before joining McCarthy, Callas & Feeney P.C. in 2016. Andrew is admitted to the Illinois Bar and his practice includes Estate Planning, Real Estate, and Contracts.
Mark R. Benfield
Mark R. Benfield joined McCarthy, Callas & Feeney in 2018 when he was admitted to the Illinois Bar. Mark received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from St. Ambrose University. He attended the University of Illinois College of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor, cum laude. While in law school, Mark clerked for both the Illinois Supreme Court and the federal court in the Eastern District of Missouri. He was also a teaching assistant in Legal Writing and worked in the Family Advocacy Clinic representing abused and neglected minors.
Mark’s practice areas include civil litigation, personal injury, corporate law, and business transactions. He also enjoys practicing in the areas of family law, estate planning, and probate. Mark is licensed to practice in Illinois and is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association as well as the Rock Island County Bar Association.
Richard W. McCarthy – (1922 – 2008)
Dick was a founding member of the firm and practiced in Rock Island County for over 60 years, first as Assistant State’s Attorney and Assistant Attorney General and then in private practice. Dick practiced in the areas of probate administration, divorce, residential real estate, labor relations and inheritance. He is and will continue to be missed.
